Disgustingly Seductive

For my Drawing II class, we were assigned to pick a dessert and draw it as a photo-realism assignment.
This was my take; it did not get looked upon too fondly by the class because it didn't match up exactly to the photo and wasn't a "dessert" like everyone's was.
Of course, it may not be an ACTUAL dessert, but from what I understand, a dessert is typically sweet and can even be "seductive"-- take strawberries dipped in chocolate or whipped cream, for example.
Too much of any dessert can be a bit sickening.
This is what I tried to portray in my drawing.
I wanted the colours to be vivid and lively, not tinted in blue hues only because that's how the photo looked. I exaggerated the highlights like I was taught to in Drawing I, but apparently that isn't right in Drawing II.
This was probably the worst in-class critique I have ever experienced. I tried to think outside of the box, but I was put down for putting so much thought and effort into a piece.
I apologize that I cannot stand within the boundaries of what everyone accepts and expects.
This is art.
It's supposed to break through the barriers and create an entirely new world-- not be doomed to stay within four tight walls.

I spent over 20 hours on this 14.5"x17" coloured pencil drawing and am still proud of it, no matter what anyone else says.
